Mind Lab in Schools

There are two ways in which Mind Lab and schools can form an educational partnership:

• Through our Service Model we provide everything a school needs including specialist Mind Lab teachers to provide the Mind Lab educational curriculum within a school.
• Through our License Model we provide all the teacher training, support, educational curriculum and materials a school needs to provide the programme themselves, through their own teachers.

In addition to the many benefits of Mind Lab’s educational curriculum, which develops children’s thinking skills, social skills and emotional intelligence, schools can also benefit from the following elements of Mind Lab.

Cross Curricular – Mind Lab’s metacognitive thinking models provide pupils with tools to “think about their thinking “across all the subjects in school. Posters of the metacognitive models can be hung on the classroom walls for all subject teachers to refer to and use as appropriate.

PSHE in action – Our educational games provide a simulation of life and enable children to personally experience, reflect, discuss and apply the majority of topics in the PSHE curriculum. PSHE topics such as citizenship, relationships, cooperation, taking responsibility, evaluating and making choices, learning from mistakes, expressing thoughts and feelings, considering moral and social dilemmas are addressed in an active and engaging way in Mind Lab classes. Mind Lab covers 80-90% of the PSHE topics set out by the government.

Community building
– parent/child game playing evenings to get families involved in Mind Lab and more involved in school life.

Shared Learning – a Mind Lab board or corner with posters of thinking Skills, brain teasers and puzzles, Mind Lab award winners and Olympic champions.

Multiple intelligences – children who may not excel in traditional classroom topics will find their niche to shine in Mind Lab, whether that be in spatial awareness, strategy, or social intelligence. Growth in self-confidence is consistently mentioned by parents of Mind Lab pupils, as something they have observed in their child.

Positive Recognition – the Mind Lab Olympics is a hugely motivating for pupils and gives children the opportunity to put into place the thinking skills and strategies, as well as the emotional intelligence skills they have been learning.
